WORKSHOP MEETING
ACTIVE AND PASSIVE SEISMICS
IN LATERALLY INHOMOGENEOUS MEDIA

Loučeň Castle
June 8-12, 2015

FIRST CIRCULAR

The Consortium "Seismic Waves in Complex 3-D Structures", Charles University in Prague, together with Seismik s.r.o. and Moser Geophysical Services organize a workshop "ACTIVE AND PASSIVE SEISMICS IN LATERALLY INHOMOGENEOUS MEDIA" to be held on June 8-12, 2015, at Loučeň Castle in the Czech Republic.

This workshop continues the tradition of popular SWLIM (Seismic Waves in Laterally Inhomogeneous Media) workshops held in the Liblice Castle in 1978, 1983 and 1988, in the Třešť Castle in 1995, in the Zahrádky Castle in 2000, in the Hrubá Skála Castle in 2005, and in the Teplá Premonstratensian Monastery in 2010. To ensure the continuation of the good tradition, we secured help of an Advisory Committee consisting of several participants of past meetings.

Like the past SWLIM workshops the current workshop in its updated format will focus on the theoretical and computational aspects of seismic wave propagation in complex structures. In addition we broaden the scope by including passive seismics.

The main topics of the workshop will be forward and inverse modeling of seismic wave fields in laterally inhomogeneous, isotropic and anisotropic, elastic and anelastic structures, and passive seismics, including the monitoring of the hydraulic fractures. Applications will be in both seismic exploration and seismology. The asymptotic ray methods will be covered, as well as full wave and other forward modeling solutions. Theoretical as well as case studies are welcome. The workshop will be divided into several oral and poster sessions. The planned length of talks is 25 min. (20 min. presentation, 5 min. discussion).

In line with the tradition of the SWLIM workshops, the emphasis will be put on informal discussions and exchange of ideas. The Loučeň Castle provides excellent conditions for this purpose. Those interested in participation are kindly requested to fill in the online registration form. The accommodation capacity of the Loučeň Castle is limited, therefore sooner applications have a greater chance to be accepted.

The conference fee will be about EUR 750, there will be discount for those who pay before January 31, 2015. The conference fee includes accommodation and full board for 5 days at the Loučeň Castle, social programme, transportation, conference materials and publication of proceedings in a Special Issue in the Journal Studia Geophysica et Geodaetica. If there is sufficient interest we may organize a programme for accompanying persons. More details about conference fee as well as deadlines and instructions for writing Abstracts will be given in the second circular, which will be distributed during November/December 2014.
