The program package ANRAY, version 4.00 is a modified and generalized version of the package version 3.02. The new version offers several new options. In addition to the specification of elastic parameters at isosurfaces and interpolating between them, the distribution of elastic parameters in individual layers can be specified in the new version at grid points of a 3-D rectangular grid. Each of the 21 elastic parameters is specified at the grid individually. In case of an isotropic layer, only specification of P and S wave velocities is sufficient. 3-D B-spline approximation is used for the determination of elastic parameters outside the grid points. Graphical output in all the programs of the package is produced in the form of postscript files. More accurate procedures are used for the determination of points of intersection of rays and dynamic ray tracing with interfaces and boreholes. This leads to improved convergence of the two-point ray tracing procedure. Check of the precission of the ray tracing and the dynamic ray tracing are possible. Further investigation in this matter is necessary. Many errors and problems have been removed and small scale modifications have been made. Most of them in the routines for the transformation of dynamic ray tracing across interfaces.
